BECC researchers secured funding for a Life-project
Congratulations Johan Hollander and Pål Axel Olsson at the Department of Biology and Hans Hanson at the Division of Water Resources Engineering who together with Kommunförbundet Skåne, Region Skåne, Helsingborg Stad, Ystad Kommun, Lomma Kommun and Sveriges geologiska undersökning secured SEK 45 million for the Life-project Coastal adaptation to climate change by multiple ecosystem-based measures!
About the project:
A Life-project is EU-funded and performed in close collaboration between scientists and public administrations. The research is action-based, in this case where the public partners installs large-scale climate adaptation measures in the field, and the researchers perform research at the sites, evaluating and quantifying effects of the measures taken.
Ecosystem-based climate adaptations involve sustainable management of ecosystems to help humans adapt to climate change. In this project two green actions to mitigate coastal erosion by using green infrastructure are studied; beach nourishment and re-implantation of eelgrass meadows. At four case study sites in southern Sweden, the research looks to understand how the effects of these measures contribute to increased biodiversity, decreased wave energy and increased cultural ecosystem services.
