The Swedish Biodiversity Symposium 2027 is a science–policy–oriented forum for communication, dissemination, and discussion of science-based knowledge on biodiversity. It provides an opportunity to gain new perspectives, learn from one another, and engage in networking. The symposium’s main theme is Science and Society for Local Solutions and Global Impact, highlighting the conference’s focus on implementation and solutions.
The symposium primarily welcomes national participants working professionally with biodiversity in any capacity, including those in academia, research institutes, government agencies, business, and NGOs engaged in research, policy development, nature management, education, outreach, and related fields.
Call for sessions is now open, send in your proposal by 1 October
We now invite interested researchers and practitioners to submit proposals for sessions at the conference. The call is open until 1 October 2026. Once the sessions have been selected, a call for abstracts will open.
A session should be organised under a unified theme that connects to the overall conference theme and addresses biodiversity research, implementation, and related issues. Sessions provide an opportunity for organisations, projects, or other groups to create a setting that highlights and critically examines a topic from multiple perspectives. We expect to be able to offer more sessions at this conference than at the first one.
Session format
Sessions may take different formats, for example:
- Mix of invited speakers and submitted abstracts (call for abstracts).
- Only invited speaker.
- Only presentations based on submitted abstracts (call for abstracts)
- Panel discussion, workshop or interactive sessions with societal groups, e.g., youth.
- A combination of the above.
We encourage interdisciplinary sessions and the involvement of actors outside academia. Sessions may be held in either English or Swedish. A typical session lasts 90 minutes.
How to apply for a session
We invite you to submit your proposal to sbs2027 [at] slu [dot] se (sbs2027[at]slu[dot]se): the proposal should be 0.5–1 page in Times New Roman, 12 pt. The application should contain the following:
- Session title.
- Responsible organisation(s).
- Contact person and e-mail.
- A description of the planned activity (including focus, whether invited speakers or a call for abstracts is planned, whether the session aims to produce documentation or other outputs, etc.).
- Submission details: The proposal should be submitted to sbs2027 [at] slu [dot] se (sbs2027[at]slu[dot]se), indicating “Call for sessions” in the subject line, no later than 1 October 2026.
Proposers, if accepted, are responsible for defining the full content of the session, including the session chair(s), authors, presenters, and any other contributors. The symposium prioritises in-person participation, but options for online involvement can be discussed.
The programme committee of the Swedish Biodiversity Symposium will evaluate all submissions, provide feedback, and may suggest that proposers collaborate with others submitting overlapping ideas to organise a joint session. Decisions on proposals will be communicated in late November or early December 2026.
N.B. Symposium fees must be covered in full by session organisers and any speakers invited to the sessions.
