Continuous-Cover Forestry in Practice – New Site, New Strategies
How can continuous-cover forestry (CCF) be applied in practice to meet multiple goals such as biodiversity, climate adaptation, recreation, and timber production? Join us for an excursion where we return to Bockeboda to see the results of the harvest operations taking place in September — and discuss the next steps for forest conversion.
In June, some of us visited Bockeboda to present and discuss the CCF strategies that five organisations, including Lund University, were developing for ten one-hectare plots. At that time, the harvest had not yet been carried out, and we could only talk about different possibilities and plans.
By October, the first harvest operations will have been implemented, and the initial steps towards CCF will be visible in the forest. On this excursion, both those who joined in June and those who could not attend will get the chance to walk through the different plots, compare the strategies as they now look in practice, and reflect on the choices made. We will also discuss what the next phases of CCF might mean for biodiversity, recreation, and timber production in this long-term project.
We will depart from Lund at 8:30 and return no later than 16:00. Lunch and fika will be provided. Warmly welcome to join us in this next stage of practical CCF!

A new BECC Action about Continuos-Cover Forestry
A new BECC Action, Living Lab for Sustainable Forest Management: Continuous Cover Forestry in Bockeboda, has just started. It will establish a long-term site for demonstration, education, and research on continuous-cover forestry, with the first step taken through harvest operations in September. A BECC excursion to Bockeboda will be held on 17 October 2025, alongside upcoming seminars on carbon, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. If you are interested in getting involved beyond the excursion, please contact Cecilia Akselsson (cecilia [dot] akselsson [at] nateko [dot] lu [dot] se) or Johanna Stadmark (johanna [dot] stadmark [at] geol [dot] lu [dot] se).
