LU Land breakfast seminar #24: Carbon sequestration in agricultural soils - opportunities and barriers to implementation
Several reports, including from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), have established that land use accounts for a significant share of carbon dioxide emissions both globally and in Sweden. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions and increasing carbon sequestration in soils is therefore crucial in mitigating climate change.
Carbon storage in agricultural soils is also evident and encouraged in several current EU policy processes, such as the LULUCF Regulation and the Common Agricultural Policy.
But what are the actual methods for reducing emissions and increasing carbon storage in agricultural soils, and how effective are they? In today's breakfast seminar, we will learn more about the methods for increasing carbon storage and rewetting in agricultural soils, and what incentives are (or should be) in place to implement them.
