LU Land Lecture: Functional landscapes - but which landscapes and which ecosystems should we focus on?
In a world with limited resources, practical conservation efforts often face different types of trade-offs. Which species, functions, ecosystems or landscapes should we conserve? Having clear objectives is important for choosing the right action, but is it always necessary to prioritise - or is it possible to find synergies? Are there functional landscapes that favour.... everything?
Welcome to a lecture when Henrik Smith, professor at the Department of Biology and the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science at Lund University, gives us an overview of the state of knowledge about functional landscapes for both endangered species and ecosystem services, and explains how a landscape perspective can guide the trade-offs that need to be made.
