LU Land breakfast seminar #26: Is it possible to densify cities without jeopardising important ecosystem services on urban land?
How can we densify cities while taking care of urban land and its ecosystem services? What solutions are available and what prevents them from being implemented or having the desired effect?
Land is a limited resource. In Sweden's urban environments, the need for new housing, car parks, etcetera is great and requires new land. However, when we seal the soil in cities, we also lose the ecosystem services of the soil, which in turn leads to increased risks of, for example, flooding and heat islands. In this seminar, we will shine the spotlight on this big dilemma in sustainable urban planning.
